Cosmetic procedures are on the rise for men, says Tampa dermatologist

(PR NewsChannel) / March 22, 2011 / TAMPA, Fla. / More men are lining up to get cosmetic procedures says Dr. Seth Forman. The Tampa dermatologist points to the latest data by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) showing 1.1 million men had some type of cosmetic procedure in 2010.

“I have seen an increase in non-surgical cosmetic treatments among men,” says Forman.

According to the data, facelifts saw the biggest gains with a 14 percent increase. Ear tuck surgeries and fillers, like Botox and Juvederm, also saw double digit jumps.

“Men are concerned about the aging process as well,” says the Tampa dermatologist. “They may also feel pressure to look younger in the competitive job market.”

Forman says the popularity of men’s magazines and the desire to look fit and healthy has taken some of the stigma off plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures.

“Men are more likely to try different things, like skin care products or Botox, to look younger,” he says. “The no longer think it is just for women.”

Although more and more men are getting cosmetic surgeries, women still make up the majority of patients. The ASPS reported a five percent increase in plastic surgery overall from 2009 to 2010.
