More average Joes are going under the knife.

New statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reveal that in 2010, plastic surgery procedures for men were up 2% from the previous year -- and facelifts top the list of fastest-growing procedures for men.

In 2010, men underwent more than 1.1 million cosmetic procedures.

And anecdotally, surgeons say as the number of men seeking plastic surgery increases, so too does the number of so-called average Joes wanting to adjust their looks.

In 2010, facelifts for men boasted a 14% increase from 2009. Ear surgery was the second-fastest-growing procedure, with an 11% increase.

Dr. Philip Haeck, president of the society of plastic surgeons, said the growth in cosmetic procedures for men can be attributed to an aging population.

"The growth in cosmetic surgical procedures for men may be a product of our aging baby boomers who are now ready to have plastic surgery," he said. "Minimally invasive procedures such as Botox and soft tissue fillers work to a point. However, as you age and gravity takes over, surgical procedures that lift the skin are necessary in order to show significant improvement."
